COMMUNITY SERVICES–Bulletin: Parenting Journey Program

Families will get a little extra help in raising their children, as government pilots a new Parenting Journey Program.

The Parenting Journey builds on the success of the Healthy Beginnings home visiting program, available to new families, generally until their babies reach the age of three.

Home visits and other outreach will now be available to families in the pilot regions until their children reach the age of 16. Along with the home visits, the program builds on services provided by family resource centres.

Individual and family counseling, problem solving, crisis management, and skill development are other examples of services that could be offered. The program can be particularly helpful for families during times of transition, such as when a family is reuniting after a child has been in care.

The total cost of the program is $625,000. The program will be offered in Bridgewater, Yarmouth, New Glasgow, Sydney and Halifax.
