Government Supports Homegrown Success Story
Cape Breton-based Advanced Glazings Ltd. will expand its manufacturing facility and create 50 jobs this year, and up to 320 over the next five years.
The innovative, award winning company distributes energy efficient products across North America.
The facility expansion is possible through a repayable loan of $2 million from the province's Industrial Expansion Fund. This investment was announced today, Oct.19, by Richard Hurlburt, Minister of Economic Development.
"The products developed by Advanced Glazings are energy efficient, cost-effective, and contribute to environmental sustainability," said Mr. Hurlburt. "We are pleased to support this homegrown business success story."
The company has developed and marketed innovative products. Solera is a line of translucent, insulated glass units that improve the quality and energy efficiency of interior spaces by drawing daylight further into a room.
The expansion of the manufacturing facility includes an in-house glass cutting centre, which will provide cost and delivery benefits, and a new production line for the Solera product.

By increasing our production capacity, we will allow more architects to design sustainable daylighted buildings," said Douglas Milburn, president, Advanced Glazings. Advanced Glazings expects to see sales increase significantly as a result of the facility expansion. About 90 per cent of the company's revenues are generated from export sales.
The Industrial Expansion Fund is one method by which the government of Nova Scotia supports economic development in the province. This fund has considerable flexibility in the amount and type of funding it can provide. The fund is key to helping industries involved in innovative research and technology while contributing to a prosperous and sustainable business climate for Nova Scotia.
