People visiting the 50+ Expo in Halifax this weekend can learn about products, services and opportunities for seniors, and get a free compact fluorescent light bulb from Conserve Nova Scotia.

The province is offering an energy-efficient light bulb to anyone attending the exhibition to promote easy ways to save energy and reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.

"In the spirit of environment week, we're pleased to offer visitors a free, energy-efficient CFL," said Bill Dooks, Minister responsible for Conserve Nova Scotia. "A single CFL can save a quarter tonne of greenhouse-gas emissions over the course of the bulb's life."

CFLs use 75 per cent less energy than regular, incandescent light bulbs, last up to 10 times longer and can help Nova Scotians save about $40 in electricity costs over the life of the bulb. Conserve Nova Scotia is partnering with the Seniors' Secretariat to distribute the bulbs.

"Providing seniors with the opportunity to try the new compact fluorescent light bulbs is a great idea," said Carolyn Bolivar-Getson, Minister of Seniors. "We know that seniors in Nova Scotia are concerned about reducing energy costs and protecting the environment."

The 50+ expo runs Friday, June 8 and Saturday, June 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Exhibition Park, Halifax. For more information on the event, visit www.50plusexpo.ns.ca . The bulbs will be distributed at booth 230.
