Highway 113 Proposal to Get Environmental Assessment

Environment and Labour (Oct. 2000 - March 2008)

Nova Scotians will have the benefit of a detailed environmental assessment report before a decision is made on the proposed Highway 113 project.

"After reviewing a focus report submitted by the proponent, I feel the more-detailed information available in an environmental assessment report is required," Mark Parent, Minister of Environment and Labour, said today, July 10.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works is proposing creation of a controlled access highway connecting Highway 102 near Exit 3 and Highway 103, just west of Exit 4.

The Department of Environment and Labour will establish the terms of reference for the report and the Department of Transportation and Public Works will have two years to submit it.

At that time, the Minister of Environment and Labour can make a decision on the proposal or refer the decision to the Environmental Assessment Board.
