TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS -Public Input Wanted for Website

A new survey is asking for public input into the website of the Department of Transportation and Public Works.

Beginning Monday, Feb. 16, the public is being asked to fill out an online survey about the department website. The survey -- which is looking for feedback about the content and layout of the website -- is available at www.gov.ns.ca/tran .

"We would like our Internet site to be the best resource it can be to the people of Nova Scotia," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "The best way of doing that is to ask them directly for their feedback so we can address their needs."

The department's website generated 308,000 visits in January, and staff hope publicly generated improvements will drive that number even higher.

Visitors to the site are able to access information such as road conditions, current road construction and projects, tender information, road safety information, department contacts, news releases and legislation and regulations.

The most visited section of the site is the department's highway camera page. There are 20 webcams placed around the province on 100 series highways that provide motorists with the opportunity to monitor road and weather conditions during daylight hours. The cameras -- part of the Road Weather Information System for snow removal -- help keep our highways safe, especially in the winter months.

The survey is available on the website until Friday, Feb. 27. The department thanks the public in advance for their co- operation and assistance in helping make the Transportation and Public Works website a better resource.
