EMERGENCY MEASURES ORGANIZATION--Disaster Assistance Program Deadline Extended

People who incurred uninsurable losses as a result of Hurricane Juan have another two weeks to apply for disaster financial assistance. Nova Scotia's Emergency Measures Organization announced today, Nov. 18, that it has extended the deadline to submit applications to Friday, Dec. 5, at 4:30 p.m.

"We realize that many people, especially farmers and small businesses, have been busy trying to recover from Hurricane Juan and still run their farm or business," said Ernest Fage, Minister responsible for the Emergency Measures Act. "We have extended the deadline by two weeks to take these concerns into account."

To date, 292 applications for assistance have been received from farmers, fishers, small commercial woodlot owners, small businesses and individuals.

Applications for disaster financial assistance are available at designated provincial and municipal locations.

Individuals with inquiries related to the disaster financial assistance program, or those wanting to know the designated sites for applications, can call the province's public information line at 1-800-670-4357 (902-424-5200 in the Halifax Regional Municipality).
