Success College Files for Bankruptcy Protection

Education (July 1999 - March 2013)

The Department of Education was advised today, Aug. 29, that Success College of Applied Arts and Technology has filed for bankruptcy protection.

"Students need to know that while the college is under bankruptcy protection, it can continue to operate and provide programs for students," said Education Minister Jamie Muir. "However, if the college does have to close due to financial difficulties, then the department is ready to help the students. The Private Career Colleges Act provides for protection for students in cases such as this to ensure that the students still get the training."

The college is working with a trustee in bankruptcy to put together a plan to deal with its creditors during the next 10 days. The department will review this plan to ensure that students' interests are protected.

Success College has campuses in Truro and Sackville, N.S. and in Moncton, N.B. Staff from the Nova Scotia Department of Education and the New Brunswick Department of Training and Employment Development are working together to address the situation to ensure students in both provinces are protected.

Staff from the Department of Education will be on the college's campuses in Nova Scotia on Tuesday, Sept. 2 to answer students' questions
