ENVIRONMENT/LABOUR--Minister Leads Nova Scotians at Caribbean Environment Conference

Environment and Labour Minister David Morse is helping Nova Scotia companies secure business in Caribbean markets. He is leading a delegation at a major international environmental conference Oct. 6-9 in St. Lucia.

Mr. Morse is joining representatives from Nova Scotia companies at the conference, including OCL Land and Sea, Dillon Consulting and Gardner Pinfold. The minister and delegation will attend individual meetings with international companies and organizations throughout the week. Mr. Morse is also hosting the opening reception for delegates today, Oct. 7.

"Nova Scotia companies have a lot to offer when it comes to environmental expertise and innovation," said Mr. Morse. "Our government is proud to support businesses that are working hard every day to improve our environment and help build a more prosperous province."

The conference will be attended by 200 delegates, drawing from countries throughout the English- and French-speaking Caribbean. The minister's attendance at this event is a response to several missions made by Caribbean delegations to Nova Scotia to learn of our environmental expertise.

"Having the minister attend this event with us is extremely important," said Stew Hattie, director of International Operations for Dillon Consulting. "He helps us to open doors that we believe will lead to new contracts. Over the last number of years, the province's support has been critical to our firm's successes in the eastern Caribbean."

The 11th annual Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association conference and the first Caribbean Environmental Forum and Exhibition take place Oct. 7-11.
