Youth Seek Partners for Summer Relationship

Environment and Labour (Oct. 2000 - March 2008)

The Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps is seeking partners to work on community-based environmental projects during the summer of 2002.

The 12-year-old youth conservation corps is an award-winning program of the Department of Environment and Labour. The program encourages and shares the cost of environmental service projects undertaken by participants aged 17 to 24. Last year 52 young Nova Scotians and 12 adult volunteers took part in 23 projects all over the province.

The youth conservation corps program covers 75 per cent of an accepted proposal's labour cost (up to $7,151.76) as well as $100 toward expenses and $50 for mileage. Community partners (which can be community groups, businesses, government agencies, industries, institutions or environmental organizations) are required to provide all other costs.

Project proposals should be in one of the following categories:
watershed management, water resource management, waste resource management, pollution prevention, climate change or environmental education and interpretation. The deadline for proposals is Feb. 28. Projects must run for the nine weeks, July 2 to Aug. 30, and must employ two to four people.
