PREMIER'S OFFICE--Sorrow and Sympathy on Kate Carmichael's Passing

Premier John Hamm expressed sadness on the news that downtown Halifax champion Kate Carmichael has passed away.

"Kate Carmichael was a powerful advocate for the things she believed in -- public education, strong communities and downtown Halifax," said the premier. "Kate's courage, energy and spirit will be missed by many. I consider myself fortunate to have known her."

The premier added his condolences to Ms. Carmichael's husband, Alan Parish, and their family.

"On behalf of all Nova Scotians, I would like to convey my deepest sympathies to Kate's family on their loss," said the premier.

Prior to serving as executive director of the Downtown Halifax Business Commission, Ms. Carmichael was a Halifax alderman and chair of the Lunenburg County District School Board.
