Applications For Limited Entry Hunts

APPLICATIONS FOR LIMITED ENTRY HUNTS

A Limited Entry Hunt is used when DEMAND or the number of persons that would like to hunt, exceeds SUPPLY or the number of persons that can hunt a species in a given area, on a sustained bases.

In Nova Scotia we have two situations where this is the case. To fairly allocate the available hunting opportunities, we have put in place an application/draw program.

ANTLERLESS WHITE-TAILED DEER

At a Deer Management Zone level, a number of antlerless deer hunting permits or "Stamps" are made available each year. The number of "Stamps" for each Zone are set each spring after consideration of all available biological data collected during the previous winter. After the close of the application period, a draw is made from all valid applications for each Zone. Only Residents of Nova Scotia may apply.

MOOSE

Two hundred moose hunting licenses are available to residents of Nova Scotia, through an application / draw process. Applications for the hunt are accepted between the first day of business in April and the last Thursday in May. The draw is held on the last Wednesday in June.
