  • 43 species of fresh water fishes occur in Nova Scotia

  • The Petite River and Tusket River in Nova Scotia are home to the only populations of Atlantic Whitefish known in the world and are at risk from illegal introductions of Smallmouth Bass and Chain Pickerel

  • There are over 10,000 species of fresh water fishes in the world

  • Fresh water fishes had the highest proportion of exotic (i.e. introduced) species (EXOTIC ~17.0%) of any taxonomic group considered
