The province of Nova Scotia is taking steps to reduce the risk of exposing our livestock and wildlife to Foot and Mouth Disease. We are working with operators and industry, and we want residents and visitors to help too. NOVA SCOTIA - As a favourite destination for thousands of international travelers, an exporter of various agricultural products, and a major seaport for the country, we must work together to Keep Nova Scotia Safe. Provincial Action We are monitoring the disease eradication efforts in Europe through the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). There are co-ordinated efforts between government departments, CFIA, and the farming, natural resource and tourist industries to ensure residents, farmers, tourist operators, and visitors are well informed. Working together will be crucial if the government needs to implement its Foot and Mouth Disease emergency response plan. Provincial facilities have standard precautionary measures, such as:
Some may implement more or fewer measures, depending on their level of risk. As well, provincial staff who visit farms have enhanced their bio-security protocols. |
