Communications
Staff maintain close
communications with all divisions within the N.S. Department of
Natural Resources and its associated organizations. They also work
closely with information offices in other areas of government and
Communications Nova Scotia. Communications planning, which includes
media and public relations components, are their key areas of focus.
Responsibilities:
Staff are responsible
for researching, developing and implementing the communications
plan for the department, in concert with the department’s
business plan and the province’s corporate communications
initiatives. Communications also develops strategies for keeping
the public informed of key departmental programs and projects.
Communications is responsible for all contact with the media involving
DNR activities. All media enquiries received within the department
are referred to communications for research with appropriate divisions
and follow-up. Often staff in this division serve as spokes people
for departmental matters. They prepare all news releases and media
advisories for distribution to print and broadcast outlets.
Staff develop and distribute information regarding specific initiatives
with key stakeholder groups, including corporate clients, associations,
community groups, and federal and municipal levels of government.
They also co-ordinate DNR communications activities for public announcements
and public information sessions, and respond to public requests
for information on programs and projects.
