Staff maintain close communications with all divisions within the N.S. Department of Natural Resources and its associated organizations. They also work closely with information offices in other areas of government and Communications Nova Scotia. Communications planning, which includes media and public relations components, are their key areas of focus. Responsiblities:
Staff are responsible for researching, developing and implementing the communications plan for the department, in concert with the department’s business plan and the province’s corporate communications initiatives. Communications also develops strategies for keeping the public informed of key departmental programs and projects.
Communications is responsible for all contact with the media involving DNR activities. All media enquiries received within the department are referred to communications for research with appropriate divisions and follow-up. Often staff in this division serve as spokes people for departmental matters. They prepare all news releases and media advisories for distribution to print and broadcast outlets.
Staff develop and distribute information regarding specific initiatives with key stakeholder groups, including corporate clients, associations, community groups, and federal and municipal levels of government. They also co-ordinate DNR communications activities for public announcements and public information sessions, and respond to public requests for information on programs and projects.
