Crown Land Information Management Centre

The Crown Land Information Management Centre was established in 1975 as a centralized service to coordinate the storage of and access to conveyancing documents for all Provincial land holdings. The Centre provides copies of material, carries out research and prepares reports for Department of Natural Resources staff and other Government Agencies.

The Crown Land Information Management Centre is responsible for:

  • Storing and maintaining archival land grant records, as well as, records relating to the 1.6 million hectares (four million acres) of land administered and controlled by a variety of Government Departments and Agencies;
  • Maintaining a provincial database showing all land grants dating from the 1700's to the present for public and Government research purposes. They are graphically displayed on index maps which comprises a set of 138 sheets covering all of Nova Scotia. Copies of the Index Sheets are available through the Department of Natural Resources library. Copies of individual land grants are available at the Crown Land Information Management Centre office;
  • Maintaining a set of 2200 orthophoto maps showing Provincial Government holdings. Copies are available at the Provincial Crown Lands Record Centre office.
  • Researching and reporting on conveyancing documents for government land holdings to meet departmental requirements, including those for Department of Agriculture and Fisheries pertaining to Aquaculture applications.
  • Coordinating and consolidating information relating to Crown land and for certifying documents to be used as evidence for prosecution under the Crown Lands Act.
The Crown Land Information Management Centre office is located on the 5th floor of Founders Square, 1701 Hollis Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Hours of operation are 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
