Report on Primary Forest Products Acquired, Secondary Forest Products
Produced and Wood Acquisition Plan Program


Report FOR 2008-8

This summary is published annually to report the statistical information related to the purchase of primary forest products, forest harvesting, the production of secondary forest products in Nova Scotia and the silviculture conducted under Wood Acquisition Plans. This information is collected from companies and individuals involved in the forest sector who acquire primary forest products.

Summary

The total provincial harvest for 2007 is reported to be 5 248 716 cubic metres of solid wood. Of this amount, 88% or 4 601 256 cubic metres were softwood species. The total volume of wood acquired for export was reported to be 492 882 cubic metres, or 9% of the total harvest.

The provincial harvest for 2007 shows a decrease of 0.8% when compared to the 2006 harvest of 5 209 192 cubic metres.

Statistical returns were received from 286 Registered Buyers. data was estimated for 3 non-compliant buyers, for a total of 289 Registered Buyers. Of the 289 buyers, 193 were repoted to be active in the 2007 calendar year.
