Hurricane Juan Imagery

Hurricane Juan, a Category 2 hurricane, hit the Nova Scotia coastline on September 29th, 2003, leaving a swath of severe damage as it travelled northwards across the province. Aerial photography was flown in October and November of 2003, and used to create digital orthomosaics which are available for download. The images were captured at a scale of 1:24000.

Downloading Instructions

To visually identify and select the desired maptiles, visit our Hurricane Juan Web Map Application, where you can view reduced resolution versions of the imagery, zoom in to have a closer look at desired areas, and use the identify tool to identify the mapsheet number (the toolbar is at the bottom of the page; the identify button has a small white "i" in the middle of a black circle). The download links below are organized by this mapsheet number.
To download desired imagery, select a link from the file below to download a self-extracting archive (*.exe) file to your computer. Execute the file; you will be offered a choice of extraction locations.
NOTE: These files are large (~30MB) and may take considerable time to download.

Instructions for use

This imagery is intended for use in GIS applications like ArcMap. It can also be viewed on its own using a free viewer available from LizardTech, the originators of the MrSID image format.

Projection: UTM Zone 20N NAD83
