Shelterwood
This method of forest management is called a shelterwood.
Poorer quality trees are removed, and the high quality trees are left
to reseed the forest. The remaining overstory will shelter the new growth,
or regeneration. Once the regeneration is well established, the overstory
trees may be removed. This forest practice works best with relatively
deep- rooted species. Can you think why?
