Maple Clump
This clump of maple trees has
sprouted from the stump of a maple that was harvested in 1970. Known
as coppice growth, rudimentary buds buried in the bark produce new growth
in response to damage or harvesting. Many of the hardwoods of the Acadian
Forest reproduce this way.
