Data Distribution

GIS SECTION, Forest Inventory computer

For data or requests that cannot be fulfilled at our Downloads page, GIS Section staff will produce the necessary information on a request basis. A license will be provided for signature before the request is fulfilled. There may be a charge per mapsheet. Please check these links to find out more about Policy and Pricing.

A description of the data distribution process, formatting and requirements can be found at Data Distribution Information. For each mapsheet, the following layers can be provided: placenames, forest layer, ecological and land classification, crown ownership and posts, mapsheet boundary and an overlay coverage of the forest layer, crown ownership and ecological land classification.

Forest (forest): identifies land cover for both forested and non-forested areas as determined from aerial photography interpretation

Ecological Land Classification (elc): shows for terrestrial areas the breakdown of land as to EcoRegion, EcoDistrict and EcoSection.

Ownership (owner): broad classes of ownership separating crown from private holdings

Wilderness Areas (cpa): shows the location of the wilderness protected areas. This thematic layer is available in its entirety from our Downloads page as theme T4 of the RLUL.

Forest Cover (forcov): overlay of the above four coverages intended for quick statistics (e.g. forested area by cover-type by ownership type)

Posts (posts): shows the location of crown posts and survey marker.

Neatline (shell): boundary line indicating the limit of the mapsheet area

Placenames (anno50): Coverage indicating placenames for a variety of towns, rivers, lakes, roads, etc. Designed to be used at 1:50 000 scale

To request data, complete the Data Request Form. Be sure to read and understand the Policy and Pricing fully. Please contact the Data Distributor with any related questions or concerns.
