The NREC offers many programs to interested groups including Scouts, Girl Guides, nature clubs, etc. Programs are tailored to meet the individual groups needs (i.e. badge requirements, etc.). Please contact NREC staff to discuss your programming needs.

• Forestry
• Wildlife of Nova Scotia
• GPS/Geocaching
• Endangered Species

Time: Programs are offered on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Cost: There is no fee for groups requesting programming on-site at the NREC or at Chaswood.

Washrooms: These are available in the Education Centre, but not in the woodlot.

Clothing: Since most of the activity is outdoors, wear comfortable, warm and/or waterproof clothing to suit the weather and appropriate footwear.

Weather: Our programs run ‘rain or shine’.

Other Important Things to Bring:

• Sunscreen
• Hat
• Insect repellent
• Lunch and Drink (there are no vending machines or cafeteria services available)
• Snacks

Please note that the NREC is a scent-free environment. Please apply sunscreen and/or insect repellent outdoors or before coming to the centre.

Cancellations: You may cancel your visit due to bad weather, road conditions, etc. Please notify us ASAP to allow us to offer the date to other groups and to reschedule your visit. The NREC reserves the right to cancel on short notice if there is a concern for the safety of staff or students.

Expected Behaviour: To help ensure a great learning experience, we ask that teachers ensure students:
                        - stay with their group
                        - follow their leader's instructions at all times
                        - raise their hands to ask or answer questions
                        - do not climb trees, or remove anything from the woodlot
Any supervision or discipline matters will be the responsibility of the Leader.

Special Needs: If you have any students with special needs, severe allergies, etc. please contact us in advance so we can plan appropriately.
