Construction Electrician and Oil Burner Mechanic Trades Certification and Licensing Review

The Department of Labour and Workforce Development is developing a new process to replace the current renewal of Certificate of Qualification with a licence for the Construction Electrician and Oil Burner Mechanic trades. We want your feedback!

The Apprenticeship Training and Skill Development Division (Apprenticeship) and the Public Safety Division have been working together to improve service delivery regarding the trades, while maintaining efficient government operation. In particular, the groups discussed the development of a system whereby the renewal of Certificate of Qualification will be replaced with a licence to perform work. The long-term goal is that this new process will affect all compulsory certified trades (of which there are currently nine); however, the current aim is to pilot this system with the Construction Electrician and Oil Burner Mechanic trades.

We prepared Discussion Papers which present more information about the new process. The Discussion Papers were being widely distributed for consultation. The Consultation closed on September 15th, 2008.
