Canada Day (Tuesday July 1, 2008) is one of the general (paid) holidays listed in the Nova Scotia Labour Standards Code.
There are five general holidays listed in the Code: New Year's Day, Good Friday, Canada Day, Labour Day and Christmas. These are the minimum number of holidays that employers must provide to employees. Many employers offer more paid holidays.
Canada Day is a designated retail closing day. Many retail businesses are prohibited from opening on Canada Day. Employees in such businesses have the right to refuse to work on that day if called into work while the store is closed.
