The Labour Standards Code establishes a Minimum Wage Review Committee, composed of employee and employer representatives, to advise the Minister of Labour and Workforce Development on the minimum hourly wage for Nova Scotia workers.
The most recent Minimum Wage Review Committee’s Report (PDF: 115k) , dated January 27, 2009, recommends the following increases to the minimum wage:
| April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010 | April 1, 2010 to September 30, 2010 | October 1, 2010 to March 31, 2011 |
| $8.60 | $9.20 | $9.65 |
| 6.2% | 6.9% | 4.8% |
In making this recommendation, the Review Committee considered whether changed conditions warranted a change to the 2008 recommendations. It concluded that the recommendations should stand. The
report (PDF: 115k)
contains many more details about the Review Committee’s deliberations, including a discussion of a differential minimum wage for employees who receive tips.
The Minister is reviewing this report and will respond to its recommendations once he has heard from Nova Scotians.
