Learning Strategy
To be better regulators, department staff must get the best training. The multi-year learning strategy makes sure that staff have the knowledge, skills and support they need to create and deliver consistent and dependable regulatory programs - now and in the future. Examples include:
Completed Projects
- "Knowledge Days" - The CCI held three day-long sessions for staff around the province to promote information exchange on best regulatory practices. These sessions gave staff an opportunity to learn from the successes of their peers and promote good regulatory practices happening in the department. The CCI also held a session for government staff on policy instrument selection to improve their knowledge on developing regulatory proposals.
- Inspection Training Course - The CCI has begun to develop a department-wide training curriculum on inspection, investigation and prosecution fundamentals. The first of four modules has been completed with the remained being developed this fiscal year. This training will improve the consistency in how laws, across four different inspection groups, are enforced.
Projects under Development
- Draft Regulatory Learning Strategy - Labour and Workforce Development is currently developing a multi-year learning strategy to ensure department staff have the necessary skills and training to develop and deliver quality regulatory programs. Areas include are inspector training, regulatory impact assessment training, regulatory instrument selection training and client service.
- Development of Regulatory Training in other Areas - The department will be looking at other areas where regulatory training will be needed, such in the regulatory impact assessment.
- Roll-out of Inspection and Investigation Training - Training in this area will continue to be developed and rolled-out to over 180 department inspectors across the province over a multi-year period.
