Invitation to Participate in a Public Review of Proposed Changes to the Nova Scotia Building Code Regulation


NOTICE is hereby given that amendments to the Nova Scotia Building Code Regulations (the Building Code) made pursuant to the Building Code Act, Chapter 46, R.S.N.S.1989 are anticipated to be prescribed by me, the Honourable Marilyn More, Minister of Nova Scotia Labour and Workforce Development, to come into effect throughout the Province of Nova Scotia on or about December 31, 2009.
These amendments will:

  1. add new objectives, sub-objectives, functional statements and prescriptive technical requirements for energy conservation in all Part 9 buildings to the Code and will come into effect December 31, 2009.
  2. add new objectives, sub-objectives, functional statements and prescriptive technical requirements for water conservation and enable greywater recycling in all buildings.
  3. adopt the 1st and 2nd Revisions and Errata to the National Building Code of Canada 2005 published by the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes on December 1, 2007 and June 20, 2008 respectively, and by reference, 1st and 2nd Revisions and Errata to the National Plumbing Code of Canada published by the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes in September 2005, and Revisions and Errata to the Nova Scotia Building Code Regulation.
  4. clarify barrier-free requirements for emergency response facilities, and clarify sprinkler requirements for small residential buildings.
