Building & Equipment Safety

Building and Plumbing Code

Construction is a billion-dollar industry in Nova Scotia. The safety of you and your property is ensured, in part, by plans approval and reviews conducted during construction, and by municipal building officials who administer and enforce the building and plumbing code. Please contact your local municipal building inspector for more information.

The Building and Plumbing Code has been adopted into law by the Nova Scotia Building Code Act, amended 2005, effective July 1, 2006 and accompanying regulations effective September 1, 2006.

Enforcement of the Code is carried out by municipal building officials. All construction exceeding $5000.00, and all structural changes, require permits which are issued by the municipalities.
