Amusements

All “places of amusement” which includes every building, tent, enclosure or place, and every structure, apparatus, machine, contrivance, or device whatsoever where the purpose of which is to provide any amusement or recreation whatsoever for the public or some of them and which is conducted for gain, but does not include a theatre where only a performance is given therein, must be licenced as a “place of amusement” in accordance with the Theatres and Amusements Act.

Applications for Place of Amusement licences must be submitted with the appropriate licence fee and other relevant documents to the Licensing section of the Alcohol and Gaming Division. Licences are normally processed within 7 days.

All retailers selling/renting videos are required to make application to the Licensing section for a Film Exchange Licence. The application must be submitted with the appropriate fee. Applications can usually be processed within 7 days.

Arcade
Anyone who intends to open an arcade where games for amusement are played in Nova Scotia. Licence Details
Horse Race Track/ Stock Car Race Track
Anyone who intends to operate a track for Horse Racing or Car Racing in Nova Scotia. Licence Details
Park
Anyone who intends to operate an outdoor park in Nova Scotia where fees are charged to use the facilities. Licence Details
Theatre
Anyone who wishes to operate a theatre, live or film (includes Drive in) in Nova Scotia. Licence Details
Outdoor Festival/Concert
Anyone who intends to hold an outdoor festival / concert in Nova Scotia. Licence Details
Itinerant Performer
Anyone who intends to offer an itinerant performance in Nova Scotia, that is one which travels from place to place on a circuit (such as a circus). Licence Details
