Political Career
Former federal PC candidate in 1997 for Sydney-Victoria. First elected to the Legislative Assembly in March 2001 byelection, he was re-elected in August 2003 and June 2006. He has served as Speaker of the House of Assembly since June 2006. Cabinet duties have included:
- Minister of Economic Development;
- Minister of Energy;
- Minister responsible for Nova Scotia Business Incorporated Act;
- Minister of the Innovation Corporation Act;
- Minister responsible for the N.S. Film Development Corporation;
- Minister responsible for the Water Development Corporation; and
- Minister responsible for the World Trade and Convention Centre.
Community involvement
Board of Directors of the Cape Breton YMCA, chair of the YMCA
children's camp Barrachois, supporter of community development
initiatives, active member of the United Church, board member of
the Mount Allison Federated Alumnae.
