Explanatory Note
This Bill amends the Consumer Protection Act to provide that a lender may not charge a borrower interest
on the principal of a debt that has already been repaid under an instalment payment plan agreement.
An Act to Amend Chapter 92
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Consumer Protection Act
Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 Chapter 92 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Consumer Protection Act, is amended by
adding immediately after Section 16 the following Section:
16A A lender may not charge a borrower interest on any part
of the principal of a debt, loan or credit that has previously been repaid under an instalment payment plan
agreement.
