Conciliation Services offers a Joint Action Committees Program designed to aid union and management representatives work together to improve the labour relations climate.
The Joint Action Committee consists of representatives from both union and management who meet regularly to discuss day to day issues which arise, in an effort to resolve problems before they escalate and require formal intervention through the grievance process or collective bargaining.
A Mediator from the Department of Labour will assist in the establishment of the Joint Action Committee, offering guidance and advice on the structure and procedures for an effective committee. The Mediator will attend the first meeting to initiate the process and be available for subsequent meetings should it be necessary to ensure the effectiveness of the committee.
