First Contract Orientation

The Division offers a program in First Contract Orientation.

When negotiations begin for a first collective agreement there may be a lack of information and understanding on the part of the union and/or the employer as to the bargaining and conciliation process.

This informal two hour information session is designed to assist the parties. The focus is on legislated procedural elements such as information on notification requirements, duties of the parties, conditions precedent to a legal strike / lockout, as well as explaining the additional services provided by Conciliation Services. The program is not designed to teach labour relations techniques.

The program is voluntary and is available at no cost to the parties.
