OHS Advisory Council

The Occupational Health and Safety Advisory Council advises the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education on occupational health and safety matters. Functions of the Advisory Council include:

  • providing advice and making recommendations to the Minister on broad policy issues relating to the programs of the Department on occupational health and safety
  • reviewing and advising the Minister on regulatory changes, which may be referred to the Council by the Minister
  • indicating to the Minister any emerging trends in occupational health and safety that the Council agrees should be brought to the attention of the Minister

The Minister appoints Council members based on their knowledge and experience relating to the protection and promotion of occupational health and safety generally. Membership on the Council includes equal representation from employers and employees. Representatives from the Workers’ Compensation Board and the Department’s Occupational Health and Safety Division also serve on the Advisory Council. Members hold office for a prescribed period.
