The Sheet Metal Worker ad hoc advisory committee of the Provincial Apprenticeship Board is requesting your input regarding specifying the Sheet Metal Worker trade as a compulsory certified trade under the Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act and General Regulations.

The Provincial Apprenticeship Board received an application from the Sheet Metal Workers' International Association, Local 409 and Local 56 to specify the Sheet Metal Worker trade as a compulsory certified trade. The Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act defines a "compulsory certified trade" as a trade in which to perform the work of the trade, a person must be: a registered apprentice in the trade; hold a certificate of qualification in the trade; hold a temporary permit issued by the Director with respect to the trade; or hold a certificate recognized by the Director pursuant to the regulations (sec. 22).
The Apprenticeship Board established a Sheet Metal Worker Advisory Committee made up of representatives from the industry to review the application and make a recommendation to the Board. The committee consists of:

The Committee is seeking your feedback on the merits of whether or not the Sheet Metal Worker trade should be specified as a compulsory certified trade in order to make a recommendation to the Apprenticeship Board.
