Oil Heat System Technician

Background:

The Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act and General Regulations were proclaimed on July 1, 2003. Subsequently, all existing trade regulations need to be reviewed to ensure they meet the needs of industry under the current Act. The Board established an ad hoc advisory committee in September 2007 to review the trade regulation for the Oil Burner Technician trade and to propose amendments to the Apprenticeship Board. Amendments would include a name change to Oil Heat System Technician.

  • Draft regulations were sent out to the Oil Burner Mechanic industry (January 25, 2008-February 22, 2008)
  • Committee met with Chair of Apprenticeship Board – August 5, 2008
  • Broad industry consultation on proposed draft regulations (September 2, 2008 – September 26, 2008).
  • Committee meeting to discuss consultation results and revise draft regulation – Oct. 17, 2008.
  • Committee to approve revised draft regulation.
  • Draft regulation was presented by committee Chair to the Apprenticeship Board during the June 24, 2009 meeting.
  • The Board discussed the regulation in great deal during the September Board meeting.
  • Advisory committee was called back together on December 18, 2009. During the meeting the committee were advised of the Boards opinion and the recommendation that would be made to the Minister.
  • The regulation is currently under legal review.
