Apprenticeship Celebration Event

The 13th Apprenticeship Celebration Event was held on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the Holiday Inn Habourview in Dartmouth.  There were approximately 210 people in attendance, of which approximately 38 were newly certified journeypersons from the central and northern region of the province.  The Director emceed this event.  The Minister of Labour and Workforce Development, Mark Parent, brought greetings from the Department and presented certificates to all of the newly certified journeypersons.  Dr. Joan McArthur-Blair, President of NSCC brought greetings from the College and the new Vice President of the College, Jamie Hiltz was in attendance.  The guest speaker was Jeremy Allen, a newly certified Automotive Service Technician and first place winner of at the 2007 Nova Scotia Skills competition and second place winner at the national skills competition.  Jeremy was introduced by Lawrence Sutton, Industrial Training and Certification Officer.  There were three nominations for the Mentor/Coach Award of Excellence and three for the Apprentice Award of Excellence.  The winners were:

Recipient of the Mentor/Coach Award of Excellence:

  • Marcell Poisson of Nova Scotia Power

  • Peter Gatza, Electrical Instructor at NSCC.

Recipient of the Apprentice Award of Excellence:

  • Brad Collier (Oil Burner Mechanic)
