Landscape Horticulturist

Background:

The Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act and General Regulations were proclaimed on July 1, 2003. Subsequently, all existing trade regulations need to be reviewed to ensure they meet the needs of industry under the current Act. The Board established an ad hoc advisory committee in October 2008 to create a trade regulation for the Landscape Horticulturist trade. On March 31, 2009, Landscape Horticulturist became a designated trade in Nova Scotia without regulation.

Purpose:

To develop a new regulation for the Landscape Horticulturist trade.

Status: In Progress

  • Landscape Horticulturist was designated as a Red Seal trade
  • First meeting was held November 5th, 2008.
  • Industry consultation (June 12, 2009 – July 2, 2009): Complete.
  • A meeting was scheduled on September 10th, 2009 and the committee discussed consultation feedback and whether or not maintenance should be included in the regulation. The committee made slight amendments to the draft regulation.
  • On October 21, 2009 the Chair of the advisory committee, Doug Conrad, presented the draft regulation before the Apprenticeship Board.
  • The Board recommended that the regulation be accepted as presented.
  • The draft regulation is currently under Legal review.
