Background:

The Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act and General Regulations were proclaimed on July 1, 2003. Subsequently, all existing trade regulations need to be reviewed to ensure they meet the needs of industry under the current Act. The Board established the ad hoc advisory committee in September 2007 to review the existing trade regulations for the Bricklayer trade and propose any amendments of the regulations to the Apprenticeship Board.

  • Industry consultation (January 25-February 22, 2008): Complete
  • Proposed regulations presented to Apprenticeship Board: May 21, 2008
  • Proposed regulations sent to Committee for clarification
  • Committee Chair met with Apprenticeship Board: October 15, 2008
  • On September 16, 2009, the Chair of the committee presented the draft regulation before the Board. The Board had some questions regarding the definition and asked for more information. The requested information was collected throughout the next few months.
  • On March 17, 2010 the Board accepted the draft regulation.
  • The draft regulation is currently under legal review.
