Alarm and Security Technician

Background:

  • Alarm and Security Technician became a designated trade in Nova Scotia on May 8, 2000 without regulation.
  • The Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act & General Regulations was proclaimed on July 1, 2003.
  • Industry requested the development of trade regulations for the Alarm and Security Technician trade and an ad hoc advisory committee (AHAC) was struck in July 2003 to develop a regulation.

Status: In Progress

  • Consultation was held with industry organizations across Nova Scotia between June and September 2005. There was no negative feedback received.
  • In the Fall of 2005, the committee chair presented the draft regulation before the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Board.
  • The Board confirmed the recommendations of the AHAC to approve the new regulations for the Alarm and Security Technician trade.
  • Regulation is currently under legal review.
