Background:

The Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act and General Regulations were proclaimed on July 1, 2003. Subsequently, all existing trade regulations need to be reviewed to ensure they meet the needs of industry under the current Act. The Board established an ad hoc advisory committee in June 2007 to review the existing trade regulations for Automotive Service Technician and propose any amendments of the regulation to the Apprenticeship Board.

  • Regulations sent to Committee for clarification
  • Proposal to conduct a scan of automotive service companies in Nova Scotia
  • Further meeting(s) required
  • Automotive Human Resource Sector Council conducting survey on automotive industry to determine number of organizations and their locations throughout Nova Scotia, the types of services offered, their views on removal of sub trades, etc. Survey will be conducted from May – December, 2009.
  • Committee met on June 10th, 2010 to discuss survey results and to continue to review the trade regualtion.
