Find a Lawyer
When you need legal advice, you have a number of options available to you. They are listed below:
- Look in the yellow pages of the telephone book under “lawyers.”
- Check the Nova Scotia Barristers´ Society website at www.nsbs.ns.ca for a directory of lawyers.
- Contact your local Nova Scotia Legal Aid office.
- If you live in Halifax Regional Municipality contact Dalhousie Legal Aid at 423-8105.
- In Sydney and Halifax, summary advice legal counsel may be available. Contact the court administration office: in Sydney (902) 563-2200, in Halifax (902) 424-3990.
- A lawyer referral service is available through the Legal Information Society of Nova Scotia (LISNS). Call 455-3135 in Halifax or 1 (800) 665-9779 toll free in Nova Scotia.
- Call the LISNS dial-a-law line at 1 (902) 420-1888. This is not a toll-free number.
- Visit www.legalinfo.org for information about other services offered by LISNS.
- If you are disabled, you may qualify for service through ReachAbility. For more information visit www.reachability.org.
- Some Employee Assistance Program (EAP) plans offer legal consultations or representation as part of their programs.
