Ian Thompson
Ian is a well known and well respected business and community leader in Halifax.
He has worked in the field of communications, networking and relationship building for more than 30 years.
He is perhaps best known as the principal of MT&L Advertising and Public Affairs, a firm he owned and operated for close to 20 years. His work at MT&L earned him awards from both the Canadian Public Relations Society and the International Public Relations Association (IPRA). He is a member of the College of Fellows of the Canadian Public Relations Society.
He began his career as newspaper reporter, editor, columnist and as a broadcaster. He has also served in senior communications positions with Emera and with TransCanada PipeLines.
Ian has also been very involved in the community and health related organizations serving as the chair of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce, as well as President of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the International Cystic Fibrosis Association. His volunteer work earned him a Meritorious Service Medal from the Governor General, and he has received top volunteer awards from both the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the IWK Health Centre. He has also received an honourary degree from Dalhousie University.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Dalhousie University in 1970.
