Deputy Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Judith Sullivan-Corney, welcomes Bill Casey, the province's new Senior Representative in Ottawa to the Department of Intergovernmental Affairs office in Halifax.  Mr. Casey was in Halifax on May 15, 2009, as part of his orientation to his new position.

New Brunswick and Nova Scotia signed an agreement that will strengthen the economies of both provinces by reducing barriers to business, trade and skilled labour.

It is a cooperative agreement between the two provinces which will help both provinces spend taxpayers' dollars more efficiently as well as provide better services. It is an evergreen agreement -- and as the list of co-operative ventures grows, the provinces will start to see more and more common rules which will reduce the administrative time taken to understand and comply with the differences.

First Ministers Meeting

Discussions centred on accelerating infrastructure spending as well as reducing duplication of  environmental assessments in order to advance start-up times for infrastructure projects.   

First Ministers also talked about the need for changes to the employment insurance program to ensure greater benefits and training opportunities for workers.
