Volunteer Youth Award

The Province of Nova Scotia is very pleased to present the Volunteer Youth Award of 2008 to Katie Brousseau of Timberlea.. Katie is involved in a variety of volunteer activities at Ridgecliff Middle School including the school musical. She served as Head Ambassador with the Ridgecliff Ambassador Program, and is a member of the school’s Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Advisory Committee.  For her environmental volunteer efforts she received an award from the Sable Island Preservation Trust and received the Circle of Friends Recognition Award from Ridgecliff Middle School for her work with special needs students.  Katie volunteers at the Bayside Youth Camp, a local Food Bank and Soup Kitchen.  She participates in fundraising for such organizations as World Vision, UNICEF and Operation Christmas Child.  In Katie’s words; “I volunteer because I want to, not because I need to or because it’s “the right thing to do”.  I get an indescribable sense of satisfaction when I help people.  I love that I can build beautiful relationships out of dark situations.”
