| Trisha Cameron's Snow Shoe Project really got Antigonish moving.
The Project purchased fifty-two pairs of snowshoes in all sizes from youth to adult.
During weekdays, the Project made the snowshoes available to local schools. Every day of every week, physical education teachers used the shoes in class. That added up to a lot of students when you consider each teacher had five classes a day with an average of thirty students a class!
The Snow Shoe Project wanted to get adults in step with health, too, so on weekends, they partnered with a local outdoor adventure group, Fresh-Air. The shoes were so popular with the general public, there was a waiting list to use them.
Winter is a time when many Nova Scotians tend to take a hiatus from outdoor activity due to the colder weather. The Show Shoe Project turned that challenge into an opportunity - a fun one at that!
Trisha Cameron wants to make Nova Scotia a healthier place to live, and so does Health Promotion. That's why we're proud to support community partners.
Increasing physical activity is one of six key strategic areas Nova Scotia Health Promotion has identified and is addressing to make Nova Scotia healthier. Find out more about our other initiatives:
