Nova Scotia Sport Plan
The Canadian Sport Policy was endorsed by all governments in April, 2002. As part of this endorsement, governments also committed to developing individual action plans to achieve the vision and goals of the Canadian Sport Policy by 2012. Currently no plan or strategy exists in Nova Scotia to identify priority areas and clarify roles and responsibilities.
Nova Scotia Health Promotion is leading the development of a Nova Scotia Sport Plan as part of our commitment and contribution to the Canadian Sport Policy. Over the next few months there will be several opportunities for Nova Scotians to provide feedback and input into the development of the Sport Plan.
The process for developing the Sport Plan began in the Fall of 2005, with an initial 'Think Tank' involving approximately 20 community sport representatives and sport experts. The meeting focused on studying the Canadian Sport Policy and joint Federal-Provincial/Territorial Priorities for Collaborative Action, and on making a set of preliminary recommendations for a Nova Scotia Sport Plan. The information from the 'Think Tank' and related recommendations are presented in the following draft discussion paper.
Feel free to forward your feedback to healthpromotion@gov.ns.ca and include Sport Plan in the subject line.
