Active, Healthy Living: Building Healthier Communities Together

Sport and recreation form important cornerstones in Nova Scotia's society, and the impact on our lives, economy, education, health, youth and environment is well documented.

Recently, in an effort to build public awareness of this fact, Sport Nova Scotia's 'Sport Makes A Difference' and Recreation Nova Scotia's 'Recreation Matters' advocacy campaigns were created to send out strong messages promoting the benefits of participating in sport and recreation activities.

By combining the two messages, 'Sport Makes A Difference' and 'Recreation Matters', aimed at two different audiences, the Nova Scotia Office of Health Promotion, Sport and Recreation in partnership with Sport Nova Scotia and Recreation Nova Scotia wished to create a broader societal message advocating "Building Healthier Communities Together".

The Building Healthier Communities Together initiative, aimed at communities throughout the province, has a clear message -- time, effort and money must be invested in sport and recreation facilities and programs to physically, socially and economically benefit people and their communities.

Building Healthier Communities Together is an assortment of graphic and audio materials, intended as tools to help communities and organizations with advertising, educational material and merchandising.

The kit is designed to assist volunteers, media, health care, and sport and recreation professionals, educators, government representatives and business leaders in spreading the message: that Sport Makes A Difference and Recreation Matters, and together, We Can Build Healthier Communities.
