Grants: Planning Assistance Program and Facility Planning

Community Recreation in Nova Scotia Planning Assistance Program

Objectives

To assist municipalities and community organizations obtain professional assistance in planning, designing and researching proposed and existing recreation facilities.

Procedures

For Planning, funding is available for up to 50 percent of the total cost of the project to a maximum of $3,000. For Facility Audits, the maximum will be 50 percent to a maximum amount of $5,000 per facility.

Eligibility

To be considered:

  1. Organizations must be eligible for assistance under the Recreation Facility Development Program.
  2. Projects must fall under at least one of the following headings:
    1. Planning involving aspects of recreation facility planning, including feasibility studies, master planning and individual facility planning.
    2. Design esign referring to specialized designs dealing with the most effective use of the facility which differ from original construction or architectural design. Design also applies to facilities which are to be renovated. Note: Architectural or engineering construction design is included in the capital costs of a facility and is not eligible for assistance under Planning Assistance Program.
    3. Research. Priority will be given to projects which have a provincewide application or value. For example, research involving solar heating; multi-use of facilities; new direction in facility operation, maintenance and use.
    4. Facility Audits involving a process which can result in a Life Cycle Planning Strategy.
  3. To be eligible for assistance, a completed Planning Assistance Program application form must be submitted and approved prior to a contract being awarded to a consultant. The Consultants Proposal must be included with the application.

Conditions

  1. Reports and/or findings must be submitted to the Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission before final payment of the approved grant.
  2. The Commission reserves the right to publish and/or circulate any findings obtained as a result of such projects. Those making application under this program should make consultants aware of this condition.
  3. In certain extenuating circumstances confidentiality may be negotiated.
