The Department of Health Promotion and Protection provides financial assistance to municipalities, school boards, health authorities and community organizations to assist in planning and implementing physical activity, sport and recreation opportunities.
2011 Canada Games Results Program
The 2011 Canada Games Results Program provides funding to Provincial Sport Organizations (PSOs) responsible for Canada Winter Games sports for initiatives that aim to produce top results at the 2011 Canada Winter Games.

Community Use of Schools
In cooperation with local school boards, helps communities to access newly constructed school facilities for recreational purposes. » more
Conservation
Life Cycle Planning enables facility operators to plan for, and deal with deteriorating building components associated with aging infrastructure. » more
Facility Development
These grants assist municipalities and community groups in constructing, renovating and/or acquiring facilities for public recreation purposes. » more
Leadership Development
Supports the administration of government provincial recreation facility organizations through leadership and operational grants. Provides support for the Recreation Facility Association of Nova Scotia (RFANS).
Municipal Physical Activity Leadership Program
This program is intended to support the important role played by municipalities in providing opportunities for physical activity, through the provision of qualified leadership, at the municipal level.

National Championship Hosting Program
The Department of Heath Promotion and Protection recognizes the benefits of hosting National Championship events in Nova Scotia and provides support to Provincial Sport Organizations through the National Championship Hosting Program.

This program is designed to support activities which respond to the goals and priorities of communities and PASR priority areas including: increasing physical activity, sport and recreation opportunities, capacity building, gender equity, volunteer development, physical activity levels of children and youth, fair and safe activities and responding to traditionally underserved populations.

Trail Maintenance Program
The Trail Maintenance Program will provide funding to groups who are involved in regular maintenance as well as emergency funding to groups who have experienced major maintenance issues due to fire, flooding, hurricanes, etc.
